Shanghai F1 Race Track
The field of Shanghai International Circuit covers the total area of 5.3 square kilometers approximately, among which the car racing area amounts to about 2.5 square kilometers while areas for commerce, trading traveling and entertainment 2.8 square kilometers. The tract of car racing designed by Tilke, Germany is about 5.4 kilometers in length totally, and the main and sub-grandstands and temporary grandstands car hold 200,000 spectators or so.
There are many highways around Shanghai International Circuit, such as A12 (Shanghai-Jiading-Liuhe) and A11 (Shanghai-Nanjing) highways; 204 and 312 National Highways; Baoshan-Anting and Jiading-Songjiang Highways; constituting a fast and convenient road traffic system. Traveling time from city hotels to the circuit is approximately 45min.
As an important part of 650-kilometer highway network program in Shanghai, A30 (suburb-rim) and A5 (Jiading-Jinshan) highways will link the main entrance of Shanghai International Circuit, forming a mighty hub of communications to further spread into the downtown of Shanghai and even the delta area of the Yangtze River.
The fast light-rail traffic R3 is programmed to connect the downtown of Shanghai and Jiading New Area and International Automobile City in Anting. Several stations will be set up near the Circuit. And a giant traffic junction is also planned, combined with fast light rain traffic line R3, to provides swift and comfortable service to the spectators of F1 and other races.
Shanghai International Circuit will provide a brand-new platform for F1 racing and other car races of different classes as well as for automobile testing and inspection, service, traveling, exhibition, and other industries such as cultural and artistic performance, hotel restaurant, travel service and retailing.

History
During April and May 2003, a group of architectural experts and designers came to the countryside located at the Northeast of Anting Town, Jiading District, Shanghai City with a mission to draw an exciting blueprint for constructing Shanghai International Auto Racetrack in this peaceful and beautiful watery region in Southeast China. When these experts and designers present their perceived F1 auto racetracks to the people, it is believed that this Shanghai International Auto City will be an admirable and monumental project.
However, many people were skeptical about the possibility of building up Shanghai International Auto Racetrack occupying 2.5km2 within 18 months, furthermore the Project is built on the soft ground and is very complex and demands stringent specifications. It is the first one of its kind in world architectural history. The constructors faced awesome challenges. Relying on their hard work, dedication, bravery, pioneering and innovative spirit, the constructors overcame the difficulties one after another and achieved victor after victory; they wrote a new and wonderful chapter in promoting the progress and advancing the material and spiritual civilization of Shanghai City.

The circuit's design and layout provide the drivers with that crucial ingredient - overtaking opportunities. Those that have seen the circuit are convinced that the new Shanghai International Circuit will provide spectators and television viewers alike with a great spectacle and a great race.
